This is a great vid on the current status of the media and journalism in the early 21st century. Fact is without good journalism the people really can't properly democratically choose their representatives without being properly informed. Trans Texas Corridor Still On Apparently

I was kinda excited in the last few years when word was the Trans Texas Corridor was no longer in the works and the media has been silent on the subject. But I just discovered something that changes the whole thing. Turns out the Australian Contractor Macquarie bought 40 freaking newspapers that had been critical about the project! I had been hearing here and there from people that the project was still on but didn't know what to make of it because there was basically a media black out as far as I could tell on it. A black out could mean that there is nothing to report because the project is ended... or that that someone is taking extreme measures to silence the project. That certainly explains the black out and no doubt the media will continue their silence. It's easy enough to read though the lies.

Foreign countries building roads we don't want nor need and charging us for them and then they'll make it a toll road to boot to continue charging us. And we don't have anyone in congress with the fucking spine to stand up for the people.

What's the difference between the Valdez and Louisiana Oil Spills and the other much much larger oil spills? American shores, give the media an excuse to hype it up and create hysteria because Americans have no fucking spine and will freak out and give away more of their right to not solve the problem. Now, on another note we should have been ready for the spill, but it's not necessarily the Government's job to be ready for it, it was their job to make sure BP was ready for it. Like the two wells being drilled right now to relive the pressure. Current US regulations already require two extra wells be drilled and ready on standby. It's just too bad absolutely no oil companies comply with that, Ya know... Those extra wells cost money.

I had always been irritated by the mainstream media's bias. Then Fox News got big with September 11th with their in your face Give the other side the Finger style Bias. At First I was somewhat relieved that there was an alternative opinion or selection for the mass media that I identified with more so than the other, then I began to notice all the same problems cropping up. Even with the issues slanted a different political direction there were still issues that did not get the coverage they deserved by the big cable and news outlets. For years Illegal immigration and the blatant lack of border security was probably the biggest of them. IF your supposedly 'securing' the country from terrorists and stripping the people of their god given inalienable Civil Rights while not securing more important fundamentals of security like the borders then there is a serious problem. This angle of the border issue pretty much got no air time and has been continuously characterized and if you brought it up on talk radio you weren't shouted down, the host did not raise a ruckus, you get hung up on (happened quite often to me.)

It was a little over a year ago when I opened my eyes and woke to Alex Jones' alternative news coverage and activism.(http://www.prisonplanet.com/) I had seen it over the years and thought it to be crazy nonsense, but something struck a chord and I listened. I didn't believe the conspiracy theories for six months or so and just found it amazing that he was the only outlet discussing the blatantly obvious commonsense issues with the fraud of bankstergate.

That got me looking at 9/11 again and I suddenly realized these are the emperor has no clothes conspiracies. They're not even very good lies. They're just so big and in your face no one wants to believe our government that is supposed to be representing and protecting us could possibly be lying about that and have carried it out themselves. Its so obvious and no one gives a shit, Al Qeada the Taliban they're CIA assets built to destroy enemy nations, now the CIA has turned that tool on their home country and they're too compartmentalized and/or stupid to realize it or just plain in on it. The Gulf of Tonkin is now a declassified False Flag event that got us into Vietnam where 50 thousand American Servicemen and millions of Vietnamese died without cause. Today thanks to 9/11 we have reinvested the majority of our military budget from an standing national military to corporate mercenaries, that sure will make a transfer of power and sovereignty easier won't it?

The more I dig into this shit the more faith in my government I loose and the more angry I get. The anger and frustration is not just the brazen audacity of what they do but the public's non-reaction to the subject matter living like ostriches with their heads in the sand. It's not that they don't know, they can be shown the complete undeniable facts and will make up some fantastic bullshit to pretend it's not happening. This has manifested into some serious heart problems for me now. I need to find a way to let it go the corrupt pieces of shit in both sides of government that stole a free democracy and replaced it with Fascist Tyranny. Any chance of positive change in government is hopeless now.

The only problem I see is with the Alex Jones community descent is really not tolerated. Consider how often racists and government provocateurs tend to infiltrate the community I can kinda see it but I do like the "We Are Change" movement that I found there. I've joined up with the LA chapter and I'm liking the people I've met so far.

Valve/Steam Works well so far On Linux

I wasn't expecting this to work. A while back I bought a Valve Package for around a hundred bucks on Steam/Valve. Steam is a purchasing/download PC Gaming service and I noticed someone on the Ubuntu Wine Forums mention how happy they were with Steam. I did a double take and thought to myself I need to try that. Well I finally did, and so far, Holy Crap it works! I've only gotten into Half-Life 2 so far but it looks good so far playing these games on Ubuntu Linux. The Package I bought was a bunch of older games so they'll probably all work the way things look right now.

Had a Dr's apointment today but I couldn't get some lab work done in a timely manor. The Lab wouldn't do my lab work without payment up front or an Insurance card. I'm supposed to be getting a new card soon I haven't seen it since the first hospital visit I had last year in February. So I had to reschedule my Doctors appointment since I didn't have my lab work.

Next Appointment Available... Is March fucking 11th 2010. 4 god damned months.... This is the 4th fucking Doctor I've gone too because every single one of them pulls this shit. Maybe I'll get lucky and get hit by a bus put me out of my fucking misery.

Hulu Desktop Finally Supports Linux

Well, it Looks like Linux is finally coming into primetime Literally. Hulu just released it's Hulu Desktop for Linux. I have been loving the hell out of the Hulu Desktop on Windows but have to admit I've been using the flash version almost exclusively for the last few months because I've been using Linux almost exclusively. But now the best of Both worlds is here. The Hulu Desktop for Linux!

Ever since Google announced the Chrome OS a lot more stuff for Linux has started working better. I doubt it's a coincidence. Most of all I HOPE it's actually for the better. But from the security I've seen in Google's Chrome browser, we're all pretty much fucked in the long run with the standards they're setting.

WOW... WOW.... Holy Christ on merry go round are you shitting me?! Never before in comic book history has this happened. Never even close. A character rebirth/resurrection that is 100 percent absolutely AWESOME.

I have not actually read this blackest night series only checked out reviews, it's DC and I'm a Marvel fanboy. But this story arc sounds good enough that I'm going to have to breakdown and pick up the whole fucking Blackest Night series. Fuck it, it's Christmas and that's exactly what I'm gonna get. I may even wind up switching Brands, it really sounds like DC has all the good writers.*

I won't get into specifics so as not to spoil too much and because I don't have the whole story totally down myself. It's not a secret that Batman died. He was fighting the "Black Lanterns" (as in a new breed of bad guy Green Lanterns) in the Darkest Night story arc with his team but the Black Lanterns killed Bruce Wayne. I can't believe no one saw this coming, I knew the facts too but it went right over my head. Here's why, the lowdown on the Black Lanterns they're dead, undead.

Now you know where this is going. Yes! Batman returns from the dead... as an undead... With a fucking Black Lanterns Ring! Ahhhhh!!!! The Goddamned Batman is a bad guy with a lanterns power ring! Either we're all gonna die, or the universe will be saved several times over. This could give new meaning to "The Dark Knight."

*On a side note, Marvels "Dark Reign" story arcs are getting crap reviews while DC is getting very high marks from fans and reviewers for "Blackest Night," the drastically different reviews are being amplified by writers like JMS moving from Thor to Superman in the near future (I was hoping he would rescue the Thor franchise from it's history of bad writers.) This is purely speculation but I'd bet real money that Management at marvel got in his way with "Dark Reign" and they had creative differences and he stuck to his guns but they wouldn't let him take the character where he wanted to go to beef up the character's reputation up for the Thor movie coming out in a year and a half, which is why I thought they put the main writer of Babylon 5 there a few months ago in the first place. If you want advice from someone who knows how to make an intricate mutli-threaded sci fi/fantasy story arc work, the main writer of Babylon 5 seems like THE guy to pick up. Letting him get away was stupid. But then, I do wear a tinfoil hat and could take JMS's word for it and it was nothing like that. Nahhh what fun would that be? JMS only had a couple of months with Thor, not enough time to get a good arc out but I did like what had happened even though there hasn't been any closure with the current arc yet.

Took me Long enough to get Call of Duty 4 to Run on Linux

This has been a long time coming. After getting all excited about the new Quakelive and I was dumping Windows for Linux and al. After a few minutes of gameplay I quickly remembered that I hate Quakes play style. I don't know why because I loved Doom 3 and it's really the same thing. But anyway I immediately jumped back onto WINE the Linux Windows Emulator to run games on Linux. I've never had much luck with it but I havn't tried it with the Karmic Kola Ubuntu Rlease 9.10. I got started with Call of Duty 4 and ran into the usual bunch of hurdles I wasn't expecting to get anywhere. So I got busy hamming out all the problems as they came and then suddenly HOLY SHIT! It's working?! I felt like blaring the Rocky music and running in circles around the neighborhood. Anyway Yeeah for me I finally got one to frakking work!

I made a few screen caps of it on my Ubuntu Dual Monitor set up.

UPDATE: I did run into a glitch with punkbuster. It's not stopping me from playing all together like most Linux glitches it's just preventing me from playing on servers with punkbuster. Basically I get an error that something is wrong the windows API. It'd be nice if I can find a way around it but at least there are still some active non-punkbuster servers but of course the ones I like best and usually play on are all punkbuster servers. The Non punkbuster servers tend to be non-hardcore syle. I enjoy the gameplay on hardcore more.

Thank GOD! It's finally begun. The BETA for Quakelive.com finally fucking supports Linux! Woo Hoo!

On the other hand it's a sad day. Microsoft has all the money and resources to make good stuff. But have burned so many bridges and it's been so long since anything competent has come out of them I feel like they're not worth saving. I'll admit Windows 7 is competent but at this point for me, it's too little too late. Besides there's no incentive to actually upgrade because Microsoft hasn't improved anything other than broken promises. And the RIAA and MPAA's DRM tools. But fuck those guys it's not like they're looking out for fair use. If they had an ounce of fair use I wouldn't say fuck them with such enthusiasm.

Microsoft has known it's been coming for years but now Free OS's and Free games from reputable sources have finally begun. Whats worse for Microsoft is they've pissed off would be supporters to the point these new platforms and systems are going to get a shit load leeway to produce absolute shit for a while until they figure out how to make their systems and revenue models work. Best part is it's going to be you know who... the Evil Empire, Google. Because the new revenue base for free games will of course be ad based.

Microsoft should just cut their losses now and sell everything to Google before their shares drop to nothing. Once their shareholders realize their incompetence has cost them their Monopoly it's gonna suck for them and everyone who makes money though Microsoft. It's kind of a sad example of everything wrong with the US economy. So many basic fundamentals getting ignored by these multi-billion dollar companies and people wonder why the US economic foundations are crumbling? I guess people in general really are that stupid.

But who's gonna compete with Google? Newscorp? Warner? Old Media is as incompetent as Microsoft a new player needs to hit the field before Google rightfully gets broken up. Yahoo has always had the vision, but for some reason hasn't figured out how to sell it.

Finally made the swap from 64bit to 32bit reinstalling the Operating System. Having a more functional version of flash is so easily taken for granted. It was kind of a real eye opener for me just how often I use the web browser as my interface for almost everything. I had to go totally out of my way just to find work around after work around after work around. Now, websites just work like they're supposed to.

Now that I think about it the guys at google may be on to something with the Google Chrome OS. All the news I'm reading on it are basically saying it's their browser on steroids. Now I'm starting to think that might work.

My problem with the Global Warming crowd

Why I use Firefox over Internet Exploder

That picture is the only reason I use firefox... No wait... There WAS a day when I promoted Firefox for Security. That day is long gone FireFox is as insecure as I.E. now thanks to the fact that the security through obscurity model fails when you become popular. At least now that they're pretty close to equals in real world Market Share as well as security now. However there is still one clear cut advantage to FireFox that dominates over other Browsers.

Add-Ons. These are little tools that enhance the browser in many ways. The good ones are usually 3rd Party and almost always open source and free, occasionally Mozilla offers some as optional stuff as well through the add-ons system, but they all tend to be a double edged sword. The more crap you stuff into the browser, the more unstable it gets. It's good and bad, mostly you just need to limit yourself to no more than half a dozen or so add-ons and you'll be fine. Unless of course you get two add ons that conflict with each other for some reason.

Anyway here's the ones I like.

ColorfulTabs
This allows your to assign a color to the tabs when your on a specific website. So when you have a bunch of different tabs all over the place it makes identifying whats where easier.

DownloadHelper
This is fucking awesome for downloading anything. Especially flash Video. Since I use Ubuntu 64 a lot this is kind of a great work around to how crappy flash is on Ubuntu 64.

Flashblock:
This is a kick ass security and add blocking tool. It blocks ALL flash from running until you allow it. It can be a little on the annoying side when dealing with legitimate websites like my bank or shopping sites but I still feel it's worth it.

NoScript:
This is similar to the Flash Blocking tool in that it blocks all scripts on a website.

Morning Coffee:
This is basically a tool that starts up specific websites on certain days at certain times ect... When you start up in the morning it starts up specific websites that you have assigned and it's just a really cool tool. I like to use it so that when I get home it starts up some news sites n stuff or when I get to work it starts up my work related newsgroups. I guess I use it mostly for newsgroups that helps me make sure I'm staying up to speed with certain subjects. In a lot of ways for what I do they're interactive news sites.

I didn't cover other browsers and there are some good ones, but there's only a few other good browsers though. Opera and Google's Chrome come to mind. Opera has some great widgets that are similar to the Firefox Add-ons and actually some are better. They're on par with Google's desktop gadgets but that's a different level of add-ons I don't need nor want in a browser. Then There is Google's Chrome, The lack of add-ons for this makes it a super fast and stable browser but the address bar being a key-logger makes it an unacceptable product.

If your observant you might have noticed I never did go back and deny that the pic is the only reason I still use Firefox. Do you need one? I Looove Boobs.

Hulk Vs.

This has been a long time coming. I just Picked up "Hulk Vs." People who know me are probably surprised I didn't have this DVD sooner.

It's Hulk vs Thor & Hulk vs Wolverine (& all of Weapon X.) First off I'm glad they combined these two DVD's to sell as one. They're both too short, not much more than a half hour each and the majority of that is fighting. They're so short and lack story that neither is much of a stand alone movie (although I think they could have been) this is definitely for fans as it's clearly not introducing you to the characters but never the less it's chalk full of Easter eggs and juicy flashbacks for us fanboys. Bottom line is simply this, when ever Hulk shows up you know you've got an action show and a fight on your hands. The Quality for the Fanboys is fantastic and they're perfect movies for a movie night when your watching movies with your buddies of fighting and blowing stuff up. But not so much for someone new to the characters and looking for story, although it could have been if effort was put into it in that direction.

Deadpool is fucking awesome in this, he really is a fun bad guy when done well. But on a totally unrelated point I don't understand why marvel gave him his own series in the comics. You don't give Villains their own series'. Despite how funny the character is, he's a sociopath who murders people for fun. He's not redeemable in the same way Wolverine is.

Ya know there is one other thing in the other movie. That's Thor in general, I like Thor. He's totally everything that Superman is to DC in Marvel. They're both basically that ever vigilant unbeatable self sacrificing savior. But all the Wolverine and Deadpool stuff gets the attention over Thor. His lack of popularity makes him feel less powerful. Ya know what he needs? He needs to have that big defining moment in the marvel universe. I'd like to see a Thor vs Mephisto series closing the brand new day stuff. Or even in general, when ever they're doing a reboot and changing reality in the Background Thor and Mephisto dueking it out but remaining unchanged while reality around them changes would be a nice touch.

Anyway they are fun movies but for geek fanboys like myself the extras, commentary, ect. are probably even more valuable than the movie itself. That said next time we have a movie night at my fiends place I'll be bringing these two DVDs.

As for what would happen if Wolverine and Hulk Really fought. As much as I enjoy Wolverine Hulk is on a different basic level of power. The Ultimate Series nailed it best with this.

This is the Champions Character I made Reference too a while back when I said you really can make ANY kind of character with the Hero System even with the point cap that keeps you from being equal with Dr Destroyer or Grond. Now the idea I was trying to get across is that this character CAN yank the souls of Dr Destroyer or Grond out and send them to Hades. Of course this guy is no longer doing the work of the Other Reapers, and will not use that power unless he's saving a lost soul (like a ghost.)

The basic concept is that he is an Angel, a sentient creature with a mind of his own. But God has shared his "Plan" with the Angels. By seeing "The Plan" or the "Word of God" the Angels have seen the future in all the various forms of reality that go with creating it and this future that they have seen is not alterable. Therefore in a sense because he has seen the future and can not change it, he has no free will.

But of course being a game character, that needs to change. So to complete a mission he has to fall, the fun part is that because he has fallen and been separated from "The Plan" or "The Word of God" he doesn't know why he did it anymore. Most of his Fallen brothers are very confused, angry, and lonely very few even really remember why they fell, Avoiding them is probably a good idea in general.

Description:

Arzuthial is a tall and imposing figure draped in fine robes laced with gold and silver. At first glance his golden eyes and long white hair feel out of place but his silvery white wings leave no doubts as to his true nature. As you look upon him you your not sure if it's real or not but your pretty sure you faintly hear the low chanting of monks in perfect harmony and it gets louder the longer you stare.

Arzuthial was never born he simply is. Since the begening he and his brethren of Angels have watched humanity with a certainty of what is to come that is beyond humanity. For eons he has served as the will of the Arch Angel Gabriel helping souls prepare for judgment escorting them to Hades to await judgment. Recently he has seen his future and uncovered events that have shaken him to his core and he is to play a major role. His father has bestowed upon him a great gift and curse to see this through. Free will. No longer will he see with the sight of his brothers with the "Word of God" knowing how the future will be shaped by his father, he shall be separate from the word of god for the first time in his existence and be forced to live with the same uncertainty man has struggled with for eons. He knows this because knowing the "Word of God" he has already seen it and how it ends. Now that he has fallen and been cursed and blessed with this great gift he can no longer see how it ends but understands that he is now in control of his own future for the first time in his existence because he no longer knows what his fate is. Although he is a powerful being of light if the other fallen find him in his current position they will likely discover his disadvantage and even as the right hand of Gabriel this would greatly endanger him and those around him.

Bottom line he is an angel who was ordered to fall in order to fulfill a prophecy that he no longer remembers because falling was required to complete this quest and falling takes away their ability to see the future, thus he now has free will. Unlike many forms of seeing the future in the champions universe theirs is absolute and can not be changed, therefore they know their fate and don't have free will to change it as a result.

Elusive and hard to understand Arzuthial is a combination of compassion and righteousness that make him a double edged sword to the society of man in general. He has been tasked with the complicated job of guarding humanity to salvation without revealing his true nature.

"I have always been here"

When it comes to why he did some of the things he has done in the past he might not know why he did it any more as he is no longer plugged into the "Word of God" or "God's Plan." Basically the idea is that angels have perfect clairsentience with knowledge of the future the past and cross realities because God is sharing his "Plan" with them They often referred to this as "the Word of God." This is key to why angels both lack free will and are so powerful.

The original inspiration for this character was the TV show "Dead like me" or maybe "Bleach." Then it hit me that what I really wanted was "Ambassador Kosh" from "Babylon 5." While Kosh was powerful, he didn't need to be. The idea of playing a character who's reputation is so bad ass his force of personality could win a fight against a supervillian just sounds like fun. It's important to note that while he no longer has the knowledge of the future he once did when he was plugged into the 'cosmic loop' of angles he has a perfect memory of all the things he has done. Which may include taking loved ones of supervillians and heroes to their resting places be it Heaven, Hell, or Reincarnation?

Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty 4 was nicknamed "Modern Warfare" but I guess they decided the changes were so drastic from the Call of Duty Franchise they may as well rename it.

I was originally not planning on moving to Modern Warfare 2 just yet. I was planning on waiting for the price to drop and the patches come out because the PC versions are always buggy. I have to admit, I think I'm starting to get swept up in the hype after watching the game trailer and I don't like Rap or the R&B Style, but that just doesn't matter I couldn't help but feel pumped after watching the trailer. And the Gameplay footage just looks spectacular Looks like they've got a true capture the flag style mission.

EDIT: Awww No... Just got back from Amazon I was about to buy the game. Saw the Xbox rating getting 4 and a half stars then saw the PC rating... ONE AND A HALF STARS!!! Wow, according to the reviews They royally screwed the PC version. Unfortuantly it sounds exactly like what I've feared about consoles. The game makers are forcing the move to consoles over PC's for DRM and crippled the PC version. Too bad the game looked great but I won't be playing it unless the PC version gets fixed. Hmmm... just noticed Left 4 dead 2 is getting 5 stars on the PC. Guess I'm gonna have to see how the }WTF{ Clan is doing.

I'm a huge fan of Bruce Timm's Justice League & DC universe. Frankly I find his story arcs more compelling than anything I've read in DC. He started it off with Batman the Animated Series which took American cartoon animation to a new level. He was able to make compelling storylines and keep them kid safe at the same time.

This clip is from an Episode of Justice League called "A Better World." Arguably the best alternate reality story arc ever written. In it the "Justice Lords" were forced to bring down US President Lex Luthor to save the World only to become Tyrants themselves after picking up the pieces of World War 3. Anyway I just happen to think this is the best Mirror match in Comic Book History with Justice Lords Batman vs Justice League Batman and thought I'd share.

Android vs iPhone vs Windows Mobile

Just got done talking about windows Mobile and iPhone with a friend and well, I'm pissed. I just realized that I banked on the wrong team for the last 5 or so years. In the Mobile phone arena, I started with and stuck with Windows Mobile for the Apps. At first there were some descent Mobile quicken apps for Windows mobile but the OS itself was buggy and sucked ass. And slowly but surely the windows mobile apps died out a slow and painful death as the OS never improved, then suddenly the iPhone comes on the scene. I didn't expect it to get the app support it got. It just plain took off like a bat outta hell and took advantage of Microsoft's incompetence and bumbling along with user's desire for these apps was far larger than anyone anticipated. I still don't get how the coders are able to make get Apps to work under Apple when article after article comes out about how they are so incredibly closed source they border on being belligerent ass holes about letting anyone from the outside getting anything to work on their stuff. This was always the excuse game companies used for not making games for Apple stuff. While Microsoft has this reputation for being open and working with the coders. Now Android is on the scene and the one thing everyone keeps harping on is the fact that Android is Open Source and that's going to increase app availability. Well, I said the same thing about Microsoft vs Apple with Windows Mobile and iPhone. Apple shouldn't even be able to compete with Microsoft at all because they're so closed source but that history is not really hindering them so this huge advantage that Android supposedly has is kind of in the air as a maybe the way I see it.

I don't think it's so cut and dry and to boot when it comes to the apps, and most of all iPhone is still the only device out there with Multi-Touch. The pinch and other little goodies you can do. the only devices that come close to apples touch interface are Microsoft touch surface devices that have been all over trade shows making big empty promises but have not delivered jack shit in the real world.

Finally the last part of the equation. iPhone's exclusive agreement with AT&T. Out here on the west coast AT&T has issues mostly with it's Data network, most of cnet.com reports all kinda of issues with AT&T, those guys know there shit and they're where I get most of my info on the iPhone from many of witch have given up their iPhone for an iPod Touch, which is basically an iPhone without a Data network and can hook up to a normal home network wirelessly. I'm on Verizon, and I'm more than happy with their data coverage.

Finally I have to say this, having a great network and a crappy windows mobile device (the Verizon xt6900) sucks. The damned phone can't handle the basics but I now have a new Lenovo laptop/tablet PC with a built in Verizon wireless card. So I canceled the Data on my phone and started that up. It feels like I have Mobile Device on steroids. I kinda do I've been using it to run CAD at our coordination meetings lately, I'm surprised as fuck it can run it AND do all my network troubleshooting and mobile goodies. I'm planning on replacing the phone with one of my old ruggedized phones. This is working out awesome for me, but I'm still jealous of the iPhone, it's one sexy lookin device that delivers what it promised (instead of 2 devices like I've got,) it still has better apps than Microsoft or Google's Phones (their app store dominates over all others), and superior hardware (iPhone is till the only device with Multi-Touch) than everything out there. No one has built a real competitor device yet. The only down side is AT&T and I have friends from the midwest who say AT&T is great for them. So if your thinking about getting one I'd say pin down an iPhone user and make them tell you how AT&T's service is in your area. And for Gods sake don't ask an AT&T rep. They're just salesmen.

Finally saw Punisher: Warzone

Maybe my expectations where so low there was no where to go but up? I didn't think this was anywhere near as terrible as a lot of people made it out to be, I didn't notice any real holes in the script. Then again I didn't think the last one with Tavolta and Thomas Jane was that bad either. Ray Stevenson definitely felt more like the Punisher in this though, Maybe it was as simple as less character building and more killing bad guys IS more character building. Less is more? On another issue one of the main problem people had with this movie was the moral conundrum of Castle causing "Collateral Damage?" That must have been the big sticking point loyalists had. The Punisher doesn't cause "Collateral Damage." If your gonna be such a stick in the mud about being true to the character I'd like to point out Tim Burton's Batman killing the joker maybe? I didn't hear a lot of whining then. See Castle does his homework and only kills those who deserve it, in a lot of ways he is Marvel's answer to Batman when it comes to planning ahead he is prepared for just about anything, he just almost exclusively deals with the street thug scumbags partially because it's in his nature but mostly because no superhero team will have him. I always thought Batman was a cut above Punisher for a long time, until recently when Punisher pulled a fast one on the Sentry made me realize that Castle actually is on the level With Bat's. They also both have that one place they won't actually go, for batman it's killing anyone, for the punisher it's killing the a good guy, but they both want the badguys to think they're crazy and don't give a shit. And frankly anyone who's not totally into the character's could easily look at them at a glance and think they don't give a shit. Which has a lot to do with why Burton's Batman got such acceptance.

But it is what it is. Anyway back to Warzone. Now that I think about it some of the effects and combat sequences did feel a little silly. Spinning from the chandelier looks neat in commercials, but stupid in the movie and punching holes in peoples faces felt bad ass but looked silly looking back on it. In retrospect now... Maybe my expectations were too low. But I get the feeling this script with the last directer would have been a lot better or even with some good editing it might have been salvageable. Had they done away with spinning from the chandelier and literally punching holes in people it definitely would have been a much better movie.

I've got to get this off my chest because it's aggravating the fuck out of me.

I generally use GoogleDocs a lot as my backup to Microsoft Office but I think Google is missing a basic concept with Google Docs and cloud computing in general (actually everyone is missing this on cloud computing.)

A: I simply can not and will not totally rely on the Internet. I've got to be able to work and get my job done without Internet access. For multiple reasons.

B: I don't trust that Google isn't searching though everything I put on GoogleDocs,

C: I don't trust that my stuff won't be accessible to the public if you know where to look.

The only way to secure a document if it has any personal info on it, is to not put it on the Internet. That's impossible with GoogleDocs or any "Cloud Computing" system. I like the intent of cloud computing but not the real world practice I've seen so far, logically it's about as insecure as you can get.

Anyway In the last few weeks my The Microsoft Office "Genuine Advantage" popped up telling me that the copy of Office I'm running is fucking Pirated. My eyes about bugged out of my head and I doubled checked everything and sure enough I'm using the right ones everything checks out, they're legit. But you can't fucking contact Microsoft without getting billed $250 so your basically fucked, just talking with those fuckers costs the same as a new Copy Of Office?! Well Fuck You Microsoft! You lying fraudulent cheating sons a bitches! If I didn't have to use AutoCAD to get my job done, I'd be switching to Apple or Ubuntu in a fucking heartbeat.

I don't understand how Microsoft has this reputation for taking care of their customers. Well I guess they consider HP & Dell their customers. They get all the Hookers and kickbacks while us real customers just get raped.

Anyway I've tried Open Office in the past and trying to juggle the different file formats was a royal pain in the ass. But I found a helpful hint at Mydigitallife that shows you how to set all the defaults to the Windows defaults totally fixing that and that was my only real Beef with Open Office. So I'm a lot more hopeful. I also never tried Thunderbird Before. Just put in Thunderbird2 I'm running into a glitch with the Password.

Turns out they Didn't Cancel "The Incredible Hulk"

I remember reading a while back that when Jeph Loeb took over writing for the Hulk they canceled the Series called "the Incredible Hulk" and just renamed it "Hulk." Well I just had an eye opener. Not only is that series still alive it's got my favorite Hulk Writer Greg Pak. I am totally kicking myself for not noticing sooner, I really need to spend more time hanging out at the local Comic Book shop called Legacy Comics. This gives me hope for the future of the character, I still dislike Jeph Loeb's work with the Red Hulk, I like what could have been, but so far I'm less than impressed, no that's not true i'm disappointed. I think that he is so focused on the future story arcs "War of the Hulks" or the "Hulk Wars" or whatever he's going to call it he's clearly not paying attention to what he's writing in the here and now, because it's crap. All the BS about dragging out the secrecy about who the Red Hulk is has killed my interest in the story arc, it's just been dragged on and on for too damned long.

As for where the story line stands now, Jeph Loeb killed the Hulk, the Red Hulk as it turns out is not actually a "brick" He's a drainer but being a big red hulk looking brick is a nice side effect of his primary ability. He drained the Gamma lout of Banner effectively killing the Hulk. So that's where that's at. Man it's frustrating, Red Hulk is such an awesome villain but I just find his current story arcs more irritating than enjoyable.

So now Greg Pak has picked up a few of the pieces of Jeph Loeb's Mess and ran with it. And it's freaking awesome! He's basically turned it into a story of Banner and his son Skaar the son of the Hulk from Planet Hulk. So in this one Banner is now kind of the sidekick/trainer instead of the usual trying to cure himself stuff. I like where this series is going, but I don't think it'll last I think that boob Loeb has more pull with the management at Marvel than Pak.

That said I think Loeb has got some awesome creative ideas, like the Red Hulk, he's a fantastic idea for a villain but Loeb shouldn't have the reigns of implementing/writing the series. That series has absolutely killed the fun of it for me but it had awesome potential.

Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" my 64bit experince

Well Canonical made another great OS that gets the job done and looks great. The Price can't be beat it's got a complete Office Suite for students or even business with Open Office. Craploads of Free games, but most of all it has Internet access that just works. The Driver models really seem universal and just work.

Unfortunately it still has the same damned basic fatal flaw that every Linux OS has. Making it work "to it's potential" is still a Hobby, it dosn't "Just Work." I was setting up the Dual Monitors and realized that it's not intuitive and frankly the method for making Dual Monitors work is a work around/Hack that I honestly don't think the average user would figure out. First you have allow the "Proprietary Drivers" and then you have to mess with the NVIDIA X-Server program by editing it in the freaking terminal, and the way they put allowing propriety drivers comes across like they're talking down at you like a bunch of elitist assholes, "Oh your going to use those corporate whores drivers." Don't be mad at me that's the way it comes across. Making it work was a royal pain in the ass to figure out, it requires ass loads of research or just grabbing one of the Linux Guru's to walk you through it. In my case I'm in it for the challenge so I went through the work of figuring it out but looking back on it while it was a great troubleshooting experience for me it's a very poor user experience. I'm also running the 64bit version of the new Ubuntu and was a little bummed to discover that the Adobe Flash equivalents in 64bit are still buggy as hell but there has been a slight improvement, sort of. They apparently removed the controls for watching flash video so you can watch it without crashing but now there is no pause, fast forward, volume change, ect.

All in all, it seems as solid, awesome, and bad as Ubuntu 8.10 now that I think about it in fact I'm not noticing much difference. The changes must be deep under the hood because I haven't noticed anything really different yet. To A point Ubuntu is still a Hobby not an OS that can be recommended professionally. In the hands of a nerd it's a great alternative, for the average user, it feels like it's ruined by the poor hand off of the proprietary drivers, that part actually has made several people I know who tried it quit.

EDIT: Wow suddenly one of my big gripes as a hobby OS went away. The Flash Video suddenly started working correctly and really seems a lot more stable. And WinE (the Windows Emulator) does seem to work a lot better. That could be potentially game changing if they can get the propietary games to work somewhat fluently.

Just did another reinstall of Ubuntu. Fixed a problem I was having with the Compiz Fusion but now I can't get the Nvidia X-ServerConfig to save the file for some reason. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1308868

The Last Day of Screamfest 2009

Went to a movie event with a friend last night at the Manns Chinese theater at Hollywood and Highland last night. That was loads of fun. We didn't see all the movies just the ones we thought we'd like, they were a lot better than I was expecting.

The First movie was called "Mutant Swinger from Mars." and Oh yes it was B movie and the title is exactly what the movie was about. But obviously a B movie on purpose. Lets just say if they had a limited budget they spent nothing on effects and the rest on the script and the script made fun of that. This movie was clearly made by a guy with my sense of humor for his buddies to laugh at. This movie was an A+ fun time for me.

The Next Movie was a foreign film called "Before the Fall" or "3 Dias." This was my favorite movie of the 3 and The Writer/Director answered a bunch of questions for the professional bloggers in the crowd (don't even think of me as one of them) and he pointed out the fact that this was a very difficult movie to sell because you really can't categorize it. I disagree with him this is a drama it's not like there are any spaceships or hobbits. It is about a man in south America lives with his mother then one day the US Government is on every TV channel telling the world that for the past three years they and others have been trying to stop an asteroid five times the size of the one that wiped out the dinosaurs, but they've failed and we have 3 days until it hits the Earth and destroys the human race. RANT*Had the movie dealt with the missions to stop the asteroid, okay I can see calling that SciFi. Calling this movie a SciFi feels like you could have a soap opera and introduce one character who's an astronaut never actually deal with his job but suddenly Hollywood calls it's a fucking SciFi show, I just don't get what's with Hollywood's view of SciFi. I guess I just get annoyed by that. END RANT* Anyway There's a few scenes in this involving kids that had some governments up in arms but I think the only reason it was an issue is that movie was so well done. That said those scenes were tough to watch.

The Last movie was called "The 4th Kind" it's sort of a Blair Witch style alien abduction movie. This is easily my favorite Alien Abduction movie the problem is that's not saying much. It's well done and is easily the best of the abduction movies I've ever seen. I don't know why but alien abduction movies tend to come across as less believable than any other scifi genre even to SciFi junkies like myself.

I think I'll have to try this again next year.

A REAL Solution to Gay Marriage, too bad no one actually wants one.

Politics Left vs Right? Your both full of SHIT! Fuck you both with barbwire dick!

Just got done trying to have a discussion about Gay Marriage and it revealed to me just how stupid people are when it comes to their politics and and it really fucking got under my skin. See I support "Gay Marriage" but I realized something not too long ago and stumbled on the REAL solution to the gay marriage issue. Now say this to yourself slowly. " I need to ask my government, if I can get married." Requiring Government approval for a marriage sounds like something we'd give Communist Russia or China a load of shit over, and we'd be right so why the fuck are we doing it? Then it hit me like a ton of bricks, that's the real solution we've been going about this all wrong, not government approving gay marriage but remove the component of government approving ANY marriage! Now on the Surface the government need for approving marriage is to give help to families. If that's the case fine, beef up the child tax credits but remove government approval of marriage.

I mentioned this idea to a bunch of people and not only was I shocked at the resistance to the Idea but I pretty much received the same hostility that both sides give each other and I got it in spades from both sides. The problem with this solution is that neither side gets a stamp of approval for their views from the government. In fact in a way the message from this solution is that your both wrong, now knock off the petty bullshit! Which in a way is exactly the correct answer in order to do the right thing. That's why I got canned bullshit responses from Boxer and Feinstien my reps in California about how important the issue is ignoring the substance of what I said. I realized both sides are full of shit when it comes to civil rights or anything else. It's about forcing the other side into submission and making them say uncle, fuck the right thing to do. Gay Right's activists will not be happy until they force the catholic church to perform marriage for gays or religion is banned and The Evangelicals will not be happy until being gay is illegal. They just won't come out and say that's what they really want deep down, they lie to your face and most of all to themselves about what they really want. So fuck both sides the reality is that they're both Tyranical scumbags, it's just not Tyranny when they do it... Bullshit!

There isn't any, all thanks to the new Evil Empire Google. Don't put anything you don't want copied and handed out to everyone on the Internet. It's as simple as that, money transactions, On-line Banking, Shopping, personal information and all that stuff as much I love the convenience of them and the broadened enterprises it's created I really do believe they need to be removed from the On-line universe unless the Internet undergoes a fundamental restructuring soon. See here's why, Google's new web browser chrome is a nice and solid product. At first I liked what I was seeing in Google's chrome it was Fast, Looked Slick, and was well packaged. Then I discovered something that's on it's own is really not that big a deal. The OmniBox that you enter your data into is a live key logger.

What they're doing is meh no big deal, it's not that much different than what they record whenever you do a Google search. Then it hit me, wait a minute my security suite is not picking up a live keylogger? Let me repeat my last statement because it's crucial to what I'm saying and people tend to gloss over it because what the Information that google is recording is trvial. My Security Suites are not picking up a live Keylogger. I use Norton at the office and NOD32 at home and use Superantispyware, Spybot, and Malwarebytes for antispyware. None of witch batted an eye and allowed chrome's logging my key strokes and sending that data out over the Internet. I have read lots of reports that Kaspersky was identifying chrome as malware but it was for a totally different reason and has since been taken off the malware list. So are security companies not bothering with keyloggers anymore? This makes no sense to me. "Common Sense" says any software that logs keystrokes and transmits that data on-line needs to be stopped, it doesn't matter if THAT data is beguine, it's the act that matters. It reminds me of fucking the Financial meltdown, a keylogger is an accepted application? Are you shitting me?! It doesn't matter why Google put it there, do you really think the bad guys won't find a way to exploit it and log ALL of your keystrokes with it? Or just emulate why security software is ignoring it?

My god people are stupid. This is going to end with a security disaster as large as the financial meltdown we just had and frankly mirrors it in a lot of ways because people in general are looking at what I'm saying going aww hell no that'll never happen in a million years. Never-mind this is not an issue of something fancy, it's about ignoring the bare bones basics of security. Just like the fiscal meltdown was about ignoring the bare bones basics of Banking, lending, and trading, this attitude of ignoring the basics can only end badly on a huge scale.

When I it happens just remember even if you remove your on-line profile. YOUR BANK HAS YOUR MONEY THERE! Unless you have all your money in cash stuffed in your mattress, you'll be feeling it.

I'm pretty convinced now that Chrome's Keylogger was designed simply to push the envelope to see what Google can get away with and see what the public will accept in terms of corporate in your face spyware. I don't get why people are so stupid and choose to ignore the obvious.

Well got back home at my place today and after doing a little clean up around the house n stuff I got online to get some gaming in. Logged onto to Champions Online and hit an error. meh saw the error last week and didn't give it much mind because the game is new, there's bound to be hick ups. Did some more digging and discovered that I didn't actually buy the retail version of the game with the package I bought and can't play it. I double checked all my stuff and looked at the lifetime subscription I bought from Cryptic and sure enough it includes a download of the game. Well that's some slick bait and switch, include a download of the game, just not the retail version and don't tell the customer. So after getting a bunch of snotty comments about it on the Champions Online forum boards I've decided to cut my losses and get my money back. I'll probably have to get belligerent with Cryptic to get my money but I've gotten used to that.

EDIT: It works out for the best anyway, I really wasn't enjoying the game at all. I didn't get to any end game content or anything so I'm not sure how really that bad it was in the end, but the poor mechanics and lack of social tools made the game noticeably bad enough that it got in the way of me enjoying the game and since the ride there is more important than the destination, that's not good. If just one of those were a serious problem instead of both I would probably still be on board. The creative effort that went into the game was great, Oh well. Incorporating some of the elements of the hero system would have fixed most of the game mechanic issues I ran across but that's pretty common with a lot of level based games.

Champions Online is getting a little better

I did a complete Rebuild of Warhead (including the look now that I found an old pic i drew of him) and so far things are a little less frustrating. it's a matter of figuring out what the hell these guys at cryptic are doing. 1st thing to understand that what ever cryptic did with Power Armored Characters makes them suck ass as bricks, they're blasters. I'm working on figuring the rest of their system out but so far it makes the hero system look easy. They've even got stuff like a typical MMO style crafting system which appears required to gear yourself properly just like every other MMO I've played, I'm not liking that. So far everything about this game runs contrary to the ethos of the real Hero System. Anyway, I'm gonna try rebuilding him again later with the brick framework instead of powered armor and try and keep the look the same.

Once I hit the level cap I'll have access to a lot more stuff though and be able to better judge stuff. Dispite my issues with the game its starting to grow on me. I'm gonna stay with it I think.

I left for work this morning and as I pulled out there was a freaking army of cops blocking off Glendale blvd and all the nearby allys. At first I thought That must'a been one big gang fight. But once I left I turned out the radio and immediately found out what it really was about.

On another note, not sure what to make of that guy. I dunno I've got a gut feeling he was actually innocent of the pedophillia stuff and it was nothing more than taking advantage of a guy who probably belonged in a mental institution but his family was more worried about the gravy train than his mental health.

Well if he's innocent of that stuff hopefully he's singing in a better place. If he's not... I ain't sayin' what I think out loud.

Champions Online

I picked up Champions Online and paid extra to get into the head start and get started early before the official release. So far... Meh... I'm disapointed, I played City of Heroes/Villians and this pretty much feels exactly the same just with skinned with the Champions world. It's not at all a Hero system game like I was hoping for. The Customization and balance of the Hero System is one of the major reasons I loved Champions but unfortunately that won't be in this game. A more appropriate name for this game is City of Heroes 2: Champions. It comes across more like a City of Heroes Expansion to me than a stand alone game, although they did do a fantastic job creating this expansion. Hearing them bring Grond to life has been worth it Cryptic nailed the characters to a tee. The lines they give him are epic fun. In the low levels areas Grond randomly shows up and if he hits you, your dead. He's an Epic Character and your a lowbie. "You as exciting as some second rate MMO... Grond Leave now."

I got a kick out of that. The creativeness of the Dev team looks pretty good. Although buggyness has been an issue, but every major new MMO has massive bugs on release. I've managed to overcome them far far better than everyone on the Champions Online Forum has been complaining about, I think I've run into but have over come most of the technical problems. There is one major gripe that I have, the social grouping/pugging tools, there aren't any, at all. Granted the official release is next week. Hopefully they already have that done but need to do some polishing up before giving it to us, the idea that they maybe forgot those essential social tools bugs me. My other Gripe is that Grond is an Epic Character and your a lowbie... In the hero system, when you make your character he's ready to go, he's not first freaking level. He's not as powerful as Dr Destroyer but the Active Power Point system and all that other stuff makes you feel like you have created an Epic Character with the limited resources you start out with. There are other little things that could have been implemented but weren't. Like the Body & Stun System of the Hero, that would have been awesome to see that stuff and having automatically calculated by the computer is the way to go with it. Instead they're using freaking hit points? Oh well. I gotta be honest though. The more I play this game the less I like it, it was the same with City of Heroes. I think it's got to do with the Social tools, they're Anti-Social. there's so much creative awesomeness in this game it's frustrating. But there's no grouping up tools (whats the point of an MMO without social tools?) and so far PvP just plain sucks. There's one map and one game type for PvP.

Oh well, here's a clip of War Head, my Old PnP Champions Character resurrected for Champions Online. Unfortunately because they skimped on the Hero system game mechanics his supersonic flying body tackle will never make it into the game.

EDIT: On the subject of 'feeling' like you created an epic character here's a great Example of real Hero System Champions character I created for fun recently. He's a minion of the the Arch-Angel Gabriel Named Arzuthial called the "Will of Gabriel" Long Story short (I'll post his background later he's a great character) this Standard Heroic 250pt Hero System character with a 52 active point max can kill Dr Destroyer or Grond with one hit. No I don't mean beat them down I mean outright kill them as in yank their soul out send it to the other side, after all, that's his job. He has a few multi-forms one is the Arch-Angel form that is a standard superhero style brick fighting build (The more I got into it the more I realized I was building Thor) the other form is the"Angel of Death'" Skeleton in a cloak complete with a transformation power attached to his scythe that once it touches you, nothing will stop it from sucking your soul out. Now, As a GM myself Generally you don't allow characters with powers like that unless you know your players won't abuse it. In this case I felt the character HAD to have that. So he can't just use his scythe in a fight on a whim even though it's his most effective weapon because it means he's committing to more than just fighting. I just had an itch to scratch of how to implement the idea of a sentient creature in complete control of itself but at the same time lacks free will and felt I had to build the character and flesh it out.

Now knowing that I CAN make and play the "Angel of Death" out of the box under this system makes other characters I make FEEL a little more Epic.

Compare that to Champions Online knowing that I made a 1st level power armored character.... Meh. I think Cryptic missed the boat or more likely just plain didn't care about what makes Champions and the Hero System above the rest.

Spiderman the "One More Day" Series

This potentially could have been a very cool series. But to be honest I have to agree with the Spiderman fan boys that Marvel botched it big time, although I disagree with them that it wasn't a great idea and wasn't almost great. It was well on the road to be a great storyline but Marvel completely scewed it up, here's the Guts of the Storyline. During the "Civil War" storyline Spiderman came out of the closet and announced to TV news crews that Peter Parker is Spiderman and of course did this promoting Iron Mans SuperHuman Registration Act. Of course now we cue the "Civil War"and all that goes with that including Aunt May getting gunned down by one of Kingpins hit men. Lookin' to me like this storyline has some potential.

Now Aunt May is hanging on by a thread and Pete is looking to get her healed because modern medicine isn't cutting it and turns to Dr Strange. To be honest I'm not certain because I couldn't get my hands on that issue but I'd like to think Dr Strange felt that she was ready too and wanted to move on and be with Uncle Ben, so he wouldn't do it. But what really happened is that Dr Strange couldn't fix her?! WTF?! That's pure BS he's Dr freakin Strange, chalk it up to botch#1.

So Pete won't take that for an answer and in his pain an vulnerability as he leaves Dr Strange Pete is approached by a little girl who turns out to be none other than Mephisto, a Reality Altering Devil and bad ass, Creator of the Ghost Rider, Enemy of Dr Strange, and enjoys using the Mantle of the Christian Devil in the Marvel Universe. As far as evil bastards go, he's generally done right in Marvel. He offers Peter the choice of saving Aunt May in exchange for his marriage, and altering history so that Peter and MJ never fell in love. Now normally it would be against Spiderman's character to accept an offer from the devil. BUT! MJ talks him into it. That's where I separate from the Spiderman fanboys on this. YES it's against the ethos of spiderman but MJ could get him to do it. And that made for some good drama, so the story arc is still pretty solid as far as I'm concerned.

That little touch at the end where Mephisto revealed the guise of the little girl he used was actually their future daughter as he forced them to break apart was freakin epicly evil. That's why I just hate and love this series, some parts are so spot on and nail it but... Now we get to the majority of where things go horribly wrong in this storyline. Mephisto gets them to agree and he alters reality. They loose the marriage and then the rest is almost happily ever after?! WTF?! Pete gets Aunt May AND his secret identity back (he never even asked for that!) AND then gets his friend Harry and his dad Norman Osborne back ?! WTF is with that?! Mephisto is NEVER that generous nor should he be. Usually Mephisto would have Aunt May get hit by a bus or diagnosed with terminal brain cancer the next day and give her a month to live right after curing her. Then put MJ with a guy that beats her. Damn that woulda been evil... But this just isn't his style. Where are the consequences of making a deal with the Devil? It would have been easy to make this series awesome because the backbone idea is fucking awesome at it's core, but they've got to be idiots not seeing so many obviously awesome way to go.

As it turns out the end of this series was just changes the writers wanted to make and are using Mephisto as the tool to make them. The way there was awesome but the destination they picked before hand not only didn't pay off it was so bad it resulted in Marvel fans rightly booing the whole series. I kinda disagree with that I enjoyed the ride there to a completely and totally botched ending, I suspect that the destination was decided by management more so than the writers themselves. I find that hard to believe that they'd be that they're dumb considering the great story arc they took to get there. And As far as I'm concerned the Marriage is cannon now. Right next to Reed Richards and Sue Storm, it's just part of the Marvel Universe.

Oh well, I'm kinda hoping that first some good writers get involved or these guys get out of their funk or Slap management upside the head with a frying pan for not letting the story go where it was obviously supposed to go. and that Thor gets involved in this one, he's got the juice by virtue of the nature of what he is, and can put Mephisto in his place. He's kinda like The Celestial and Holy Arch-Angel of the Marvel Universe to counter these demonic creatures. I'm kinda hoping Thor sets things straight and opens up a can of cosmic whoop ass on Mephisto and puts MJ & Pete back together and then Personally takes Aunt May to be with Ben. Now that would be awesome. Besides Thor is long overdue for a moment to shine as a Marvel Character this could be a good opportunity.

We'll have to wait and see how it all plays out. I have a feeling somehow Mephisto is tied in with the dealings with Norman Osborne and Ares as they are making major plays in the Marvel universe though, hopfully it'll lead to a Marvel reboot. You gotta do that once in a while so that writers can feel free to make major changes because it'll always get reset anyway.

It's midnight right now and around 95 degrees in my apartment... Last night was no better. FAAAAKKKK!!! I can't run any games because it overheats my fucking PC. but at least I can still run the internet and bitch about it.

I missed work today because my little portable AC crapped out on me last night and I was up all night about time to leave for work this morning I got dressed sat down after getting my shoes on... and fucking fell asleep. The property management promises they'll have the AC replaced by Tuesday. I'm not gonna hold my breath, if it's not installed by the end of the day I'm just gonna have to get a new and bigger portable and send them the bill.

I feel like I should have liked this movie more. All the reviewers I usually like gave it some very enthusiastic thumbs up. Except blunty for some reason he doesn't have a review of it.

I gotta agree with my dad it was... Meh... I don't know of my hopes were too high or not. But to me it felt like the movie was a half assed attempt at a documentary style film and that's what hurt it for me, There were several instances where if it were documentary style, sorry you don't get to get that shot and it's okay because it's a "Documentry." Right? Right. The acticing felt solid and the effects were fantabulous but most of the movie was not actually documentary style, it was just shakey cam. In the begnining it wasa true documentary style and throughout the movie there were clips of interviews mixed in here and there but again just because it's shaky cam does not make a documentray, I guess that kinda caused a distraction that derailed me from liking it. Also the Interviews that were giving spoilers felt out of place I think it might have helped if they were kept in cronological order. Now the last half hour or so of the movie was more action flick than documentary and that was very very solid.

I did want to like it, I thought they did a great job bringing the "Prawns" to life. But all in all, on the scale of pass, rent, or run out right now and see it, I have to give it a definite rent. But since I don't rent, I'll pick up the DVD when it comes out. I hate late fees.

I got invited to the BETA for the new "DDO" (Dungeons and Dragons Online at http://www.ddo.com .) I have to say I like the direction, it's a fantastic way to entice people in bascially the game is FREE! Sounds crazy but they've got lots and lots of other ways to get money out of you. Selling Premium Content, classes, ect. The game itself hasnt changed much but a few brilliant addidtions have been added like Hirelings. If your putting a group together but can't find a cleric or figther, you can get a hireling instead of a real player. As for the core of the changes though basically the idea is you sign up and play low levels for free then at higher levels you have to pay to access certain content, but in thoery you can reach the higher levels. Still even at low levels there are certain quest lines that will be labeled "premium" you'll want to play, they're just more fun and nail that DnD flavor. It got me excited about it enough to resubscribe to the old one. It'll be short lived though, the New Version called Ebberon is set to relase on 9/9/09.

I'll probobly sign up for a VIP account. Basically my thinking on MMO's is that if I get hooked on them, I don't go out during the week get drunk and waste money. So that's $15/mo well spent if it's saving me hundreds on drinks. I do have to save that for the weekends though, I have to reserve time for chasing chicks getting hammered and throwing up a lot.

EDIT: Ya know, this is the 4th time or maybe 5th time I've restarted with this game. Why am I thinking it's going to work with this version of the game THIS time. I really want this game to not suck but my god the community sucks ass. I guess I can use it to kill time for getting Champions Online.

Little Quote I picked up from my mom there when she quit smoking for the dozenth or so time. It really encapsulates what it takes to quit smoking. Came into work today feeling sick. It's definitely that jonesing body needs nicotine nausea.

So I was watching the end of the show Video Blog for one of my favorite shows Battlestar Galactica. The prop master gets her turn and shows off the cigarettes they've been using in the show. Nicotine Free HoneyRose Cigarettes! My jaw hit the floor. Nicotine Free?!? Holy Shamolies that's awesome! That has to be the best stop[ smoking tool out there! Why'd I just hear about it now?! So I went looking for them at every herbal suppliment and health food stores I could find. But no luck, apparently they're not sold in the US. Tabacco companies probobly made them illigal by passing a law with the political vending machine in Washington. Anyway once I figured that out I immediately find their website http://www.honeyrose.co.uk/ and put in an order. Says 6-8 weeks for delivery, and they're not kidding. Mine arrived in 8 weeks to the day. I ordered an assortment of everything, Flavored, normal, ginseng, ect. Got about a 2 week supply.

At first it was a little weird I was definitely jonesing with Nicotine fits while smoking. Then on day three I got busy doing some stuff and started chain smoking em because I was jonesing for nicotine. I was chain smoking the normal ones most of the day then I started chain smoking with the ginseng variety, made me SICK. Not quite to the point of puking but definitely nauseated and I noticed I started to cringe when I reached for another one. I thought to myself HOLY CRAP it's working! I need to keep chain smoking these ginseng cigs! I made sure after that if I reached for a cigarette it was ginseng. After stopping chain smoking them the nausea went away but I still cringed for 2 days after that every time I reached for a smoke. Problem was the nicotine fits where just a little stronger than the cringing.

Then I ran out of the ginseng cigarettes the next day and was left with the flavored and foofy cigarettes. Oh well, I figured I'd just nurse them and ween myself off them. It's been 4 weeks now, I'm still nicotine free and haven't had any smokes at the office for 2 weeks and haven't smoked at home or anywhere else in 2 days. I've still got a pack of Honeyrose at the office and here at home. Mostly it's so I can tell myself I don't need it anymore. Makes me feel safe I guess that if I do get an urge I've got the nicotine free packs around still.

If anyone tries this in the future. Get the ginseng and make yourself sick, chain smoke 'em. I honestly think it'll make ya quit easier.

Finally got to finish watching this on Netflix streaming (which totally rocks BTW.) I have to admit it was pretty damned good. I remember feeling those same pressures to "Achive Greatness!" At least when I did it it was to recover from the back injury, worked for me. I can honestly say you bet your ass I'd do it again. I never did get into when I was actually lifting competitively though.

The bit noting the amount of time the US Government spent debating steroids in baseball vs debating the freaking war in Iraq and other places was a little disturbing. Not to mention the raw ignorance of the Government on the Topic, they clearly don't know what they're talking about and just fan the flames of ignorance to create a scandal over here, to keep us from looking over there. They're debating this over wars and they don't even understand the subject matter. Heh.

Now that I think about it, it's pretty much the same for the war on drugs, it's all slight of hand. Don't look over here, ohhh look at that.

My take on Aliens

I was talking with a friend a few months ago and I had an interesting thought about the Aliens called the Grey and how Aliens tend to be "Humanoid." It's arrogant to belive that aliens would be in any way humanoid (2 amrs, 2 legs, and a head.) There's no real advantage to the form over others but I realized there is one possibility that makes perfect sense. The Grey's are not aliens at all, they're evolved humans. Imagaine a day in 10 million years humans have evolved to the point that time and space travel are common place. What would Humans look like that far in the future?

And a high school history field trip to early humanity accidentally crashes in Roswell New Mexico...

I think that Hypothesis is far more likely than the Grey being of alien origin should they actually exist.

My Buddy Jason tried to get me to watch it a while back but I didn't want to just jump in the middle of the show and wanted to watch it from the beginning since it sounded pretty good. Now that I've got NetFlix streaming video I can watch the whole damned series online! It's friggin awesome I'm gonna have to get the boxed set of this show now. I heard that my old favorite show the new Battlestar Galactica had some stiff competition but I nevr tore away from BSG to watch Jericho. I have a feeling though that Jericho will have the same problem that BSG suffered from. The series won't live up to the pilot episode with all those nukes putting the fear of god in ya.

I finished watching the series, I gotta admit I was surprised it really came across like it wasn't cut early but instead they ended it on their terms instead of dragging it out because they realized it would probably suck if they dragged it on longer than the meat of the main storyline allows.

More Diabetes thoughts

Just made an observation about diabetes that got me thinking. When I was religiously on the protein diet my sugars were nicely under control. But I had to give it up be cause I was crapping 10lb bricks and I'd rather not do that anymore.

I think the theory behind why it works is wrong. It's got to do with why most 3rd world countries don't have diabetes epidemics. They don't get our food. I'm starting to think the cause of diabetes is in the preservatives we add to our food. The meats I was eating on the protein diet don't have the same preservatives as all the rest. Might be something too that.

EDIT: 05-15-09 I was talking with Ben one of the Foreman at the shop I work at. And talked to him about the fact that he's lost about 50lbs or so in the last six months. He said he'd be dieting and all to get his diabetes under control but wasn't having any luck. He Told me that he finally quit sodas and coffee, bam he started slowly and surely dropping pounds and his blood sugars leveled out. Can't just be the caffeine though it's got the be some of the chemicals they put in it. When I was on the protein diet I only drink diet sodas and those had caffeine so that's not it as far as I'm concerned.

I have type 2 diabetes. A few minutes ago I came upon a realization. Obesity is not the cause of diabetes. There is a correlation between the two but obesity is not the cause, it's a symptom.

Here's the common sense logic, if a person can not burn all the sugars they consume what happens? They store it as fat. In a diabetic they can not burn the sugars at the rate of the general population, so diabetics should be fat if the two have the same diet. I understand the logic of using diet and exercise to control the diabetes and that's a good thing.

The way the mass media and medical industry spin it constantly as if obesity was the cause of diabetes instead of being a symptom of it when any non-doctor can use common sense to see the obvious real issue just smells like disingenuous bullshit. Makes me proud to wear a tin-foil hat.

Getting the New Ubuntu has not been as user friendly as 8.X but then I guess user friendly has never been the Linux MO. I had to learn that the hard way trying to get all my Apps to run under Linux following all the Guru's who claimed to have gotten many of my favorite games and programs to run. I was never able to match their success, although it was fun trying I never got the satisfaction of making any of it work. Still it's a fun hobby but no replacement OS until the gaming companies support it.

Hired a house keeper

My neighbor Art's wife got laid off after 25 years at the place she worked. What a freaking nightmare. They laid off all the Loyal employees who have been there for decades for the underpaid ones. I hired her to clean my place up I really needed the help and they need the money, so it's a win all around. Hopefully when she does gets a new job she'll stick around and clean my place up on weekends or something.

Makes me wonder about my own situation, I get the feeling it's a traditional place where loyalty does mean something but ya never know. Still I'm happy there, and hope not to get lost in the slow economy but I'm used to handling huge jobs as a "Detailer/Designer." We haven't had one of those in a few years.

I finally quit the sleeping pills... again. Ughh I hate those things. I O'd over a month ago just before my dad's birth day. At first that didn't scare me like it should have, I dunno I've been confused as fuck lately. I think the diabetes has been outta whack. Worst part is when it is outta whack it makes me feel nothing but apathy.

I still have trouble sleeping but last time I mentioned getting some help sleeping to a doctor she told me to see s shrink. I hate that, shrinks are joke they're about as real a science as witch doctors. I'd rather get my pills & drugs from a real doctor.

Giving Warhammer Another Shot

Last month I got so frustrated with the complete domination of "Destruction" across the board on all the Warhammer Open RvR & Core servers that the game stopped being fun, so I quit the game. But I've got to admit, the damned game is crack for me. So after careful consideration and overlooking the servers I noticed that there is one server where Order is slightly winning. It's the role-playing server Phoenix Throne. I've been on it a few days now and its been pretty good. Keeps actually get defended and the flavor and attitude on the server is vastly different.

I'm a role-player at heart anyway so it's not like it's a stretch I just need to get more into the history of the game, that I don't have. I should probably talk to one of the youngsters from my old Sunday game Brandon. He was heavy into warhammer and even worked for games workshop for about a year and would probably know where I should look for reading material to write up a a good back story. I do miss the old crew, that's got a lot to do with what the game is about. But I have to admit, after being on servers with absolutely no hope what so ever of defeating the enemy to this, a server with hope. It sucks and in some way's because I'm leaving the guild behind I don't like it, but I'll take it. Because it's either that or leave since the developers lacked some serious common sense so there's no point.

The Opera Mobile Web Browser

I picked up the Verizon XV6900 "Vouge" with Windows Mobile and was utterly disappointed with it. It feels as if Microsoft isn't even trying to compete with Apple or Google they just suck.

Then I picked up the Opera Mobile Web Browser and HOLY CRAP! It really feels like a brand new phone. They did a fantastic job with that web browser. But still, I think this phone is the last Microsoft OS product I'll ever purchase. Every line of there's OS's lately have been terrible. I'm either going pure open source or apple. I just wish Either Apple or one of the Linux Distros would get serous about competing with Microsoft for gaming. That's the only thing holding both of them back the gaming community is secondary to the business community for driving the market but still. Oh well.

Been playing a lot of Warhammer Online lately. It's been a lot of fun for the most part. I joined a guild called "Draconum Knights" and the community is great and loads of fun but the responsiveness of the developer community has been far less than stellar and frankly is typical of what I expected from an EA product, crap. Mythic put together a potentially awesome game but it feels like EA put their foot down to make sure it turned into crap.

I played "Breetai" the witch hunter for the last month or so and got him to Rank 40 with 42 renown. Not fantastic but certainly quite respectable but this weekend we decided to move our guild to a new server. It's hard to let that character go but we have too. The Wolfenburg server is dy9ing a slow death Mythic is doing nothing about it and there's nothing we can do to stop it, so we better get off that sinking ship. Dealing with the other guilds on that server was more irritating than fun so that makes Open Realm vs Realm even tougher, it shouldn't be that way.

So far the Skull Throne server has been a blessing. Gotten to know some of the local guilds and they're not a bunch of Pre-Madonnas like we had on Wolfenburg. I've got a new toon, "Norburg" the Archmage whom I got to rank 12 this weekend. I'm trying to get my main Breetai transferred to Skull Throne but EA/Mythic are giving me the run around. Partly because I'm not on the list of "Approved" server transfers at the moment and want to do a paid transfer and I'm trying to find out if and when they'll be available the other part is the legendary support of EA never providing an honest answer.

Not a week after we leave wolfenburg and I get vocal about it in the Forums does mythic open up wolfenburg for transfers. Is mythic listening? I hope so, but I doubt it they're other issues with the game as well openly argued about on the warhammer alliance boards that make it pretty clear to me that the game developers Mythic are actually playing favorites with the side of destruction on most issues it's no wonder they drastically out number the order side. It's unfortunate, it'll shorten the lifespan of the game if they don't change that.

Family Loss

We lost my grandfather this week. Things were initially looking quite hopeful that he may make a recovery and add a few years of fun but it wasn't meant to be. The day before he died he was excited and happy about the fact that he was able to hop around on one leg in his walker without help. I guess my sister's experience in hospitals pretty much nailed it when she said before the surgery to remove the leg that his spirit and will power are there and strong but his body is shot and done.

The Black Dragons Have Killed Lolth and ended the "War of the Demon Queen!" I don't think this fight could have been any better if it were deliberately scripted the way it turned out. Momma Lolth came in invisible in her humanoid Drow form after buffing herself the entire time she was upstairs and only a few team members could see her when she made her arrival. But it made me a little more confident that I had made the right move picking up Blind Fighting for LoMak even though it never did come into play because when ever he did manage to lay a blow on Lolth no reroll was needed.

First once Kira was up she threw her big mass heal and brought everyone up to full hit points, then Olek was the first to make an attack on her, it was a weak roll and only hit around a 30ish AC which we knew would miss but points out her position to the rest of the party. Then LoMak rolls in, Debuffed for the most part but using no power attack and still had his major enhancement bonus' and bane up in an attempt to get Lolth with his call to justice(Dimensional Anchor) I used the ability of the Black Dragon Greatsword to ignore natural armor bonus' and go for it, I roll a Big 19! Awesome right? Total Hit was an AC of 64.... Missed.... As a group we were stunned at that! Our Big hitter just went in with no power attack to ensure a hit got a really good roll and missed! Granted he didn't use his furious strike on which adds another +8 to hit but still Holy Crap! The Target AC was 67 and with his Furious strike that's well within reach of his Leap Attack but we had to get that Dimensional Anchor on her to stop her from using several of her abilities that would allow her to escape.

Now she lets her Divine Blast go, 17d12 damage OMG she tossed Bart the War Mage like a Salad and almost straight up killed him in one blast. Marek was quick to move to Bart and stabilize him as Kira hit Bart with another heal spell bringing him to full again. Yak Could not get into position for the most part to make himself useful so he spent much of the game using his Ioun Stone of Absorption to Absorb her quickened spells and abilities to great effect in the beginning. Hugo was hidden within one of the pillars of Lolths chamber so she performed an alter reality to change the pillar from stone to a pure force effect trapping Hugo within the pillar. Lolth was getting iritated that she had not succeeded in killing Bart so she charged herself up with a spell as the Team discovered she had used a play from our play book and made herself immune to dispel magic spells. But we did have some success with the last charge from an Artifact called the Magic Cipher and Olek was able to drain close to a dozen of her spells with it but not anywhere near half of them and not the important ones and dropped it chargeless on the ground and refocused his mind blade to attack her again.

LoMak continued in vain to lay his Call to Judgment Ability on the Demon Queen and Anchor her from dimensional travel as Olek continues in Vain to try and hit her. Marek Lets loose his Spirit of War Power and Kira quickly follows up with another buff of her own. Finally Lolth let her spell loose, and Automatically crit with her Divine blast on Bart Killing him outright for 34d12 damage! Hugo in Ghost form has no disintegrate spell handy to free himself from the tubed column that he is trapped within. Instead he goes to a spell he never figured he'd use in such a situation, and transforms himself into the ghostly visage of an eye tyrant(beholder.) He is then able to use the disintegrate stalk and make a hole to escape the pillar of force. Kira Moved in to raise Bart with a revivify.

Liking the effect it had on Bart Lolth begins charging it up again Olek moved into flanking position and got a small hit in, allowing LoMak to move in and finally get a 20 with a full power attack doing just over a hundred to her. Now she is anchored and we've actually managed to get a few shots in but had only begun to scratch the surface. As we do she lets her Blast go again this time targeting Yak with her Automatic Crit Divine Blast, luckily he's made of much tougher stuff than Bart and sucks up the damage but is reduced to 9 hit points. Bart attempted to hit her with one of his Orbs of Acid but failed to connect. Kira Moves in with a Heal spell and Yaks natural fast healing kicks in. Now with Lolth Anchored LoMak moves to using his Furious strike and is able to land more blows in on Lolth, they're not full power attacks like he normally likes to do but he has an honest chance of hitting from here on out with his first blow. Hugo Tried to help by exposing Lolths position with the eye tyrants natual anti-Magic cone. But that turned out to be more hindrance than help. Kira hits Yak with a Cure Critical wounds bringing him up to just below a hundred hit points.

Again Lolth Blasts Yak as her greater invisiblity comes to an end and is about to kill him as Marek saves his ass as he has done to LoMak so many times taking half the damage onto himself. Lolth Looks at Yak and Says "Leave, and I'll let you live." Yak having traveled with the black dragons as long as he has knows not to trust demons let alone the "Demon Queen" she won't let him live and he knows it, or at least she'll make him wish he was dead he looks at her and says "I don't think I'm the one who needs to worry about that." Olek and LoMak continue to nickel and dome Lolth getting a few more hits in with the added buffs allowing them to hit on rolls lower than 20. Several of LoMaks attack rolls slightly exceeded my original guesstimates as I had not figured in the Luck Bonus from Kira allow in the hit bonus' on allowing LoMak to reach +58 to hit on particular one roll. That may sound impressive, but where fighting a freaking god here! the hit chance on that is almost 50/50 with an AC 67 so if you think about it it's perfect.

Hugo dismissed the eye tyrant form and he and bart made several failed attempt to attack the Demon Queen as her Spell resistance was too astronomically high even with his assay resistance buffs or she turned out to be immune to the orbs they had actually managed to hit with. Marek finally gets to let loose his Alpha strike, it would have been an automatic x3 damage crit as she was doing to us but one of the spells she had up gave her immunity to critical hits so the alpha strike from the psion only did around 250pts of damage. Knowing that he will not survive another blast from the Demon Queen Yak decides to charge the bitch and put her on her ass before he goes out and over runs the crap out her putting her ass on the ground.

Olek and LoMak continue to nickel and dime Lolth getting a few more hits in (mind you they're nickle diming her with hits doing form 80 to 100pts of damage which at this scale of game play are nickle dime but they all add up) with the added buffs allowing them to hit on rolls lower than 20. Gabrielle retrieves the Sipehr and Merak uses a full Bend Reality to Recharge the Artifact. Lolth Blasts Yak as she had "warned the impudent fool" and Kills him our right.

Finally Gabrielle Lets the Magic Cipher Loose and with clutch timing strips Lolth's important buffs (most importantly the crystal body went down which prevents crits.) LoMak and Olek Continue to Nickle and Dime her but are able to get even more hits in now as Marek lets loose with what will be his last and final alpha strike regardless of the outcome as he does not have enough left to try for another. He rolls poorly and uses an ability allowing him an immediate reroll using that last of his power points and got himself an 18 and a hit! Lolth dosn't like that, so now she uses her immediate action with an alter fortune and forces him to reroll again knowing the odds are in her favor of forcing him to miss. He rolls a 19 even better! With his Daughter's blessing on his axe it's an automatically confirmed critical hit with the overcharged alpha strike! Total Damage was in the neighborhood of just over 600 points of damage, As Marek's Axe embeds itself in Lolth's skull and the Black Dragons must make a hasty exit as her plane begins to fall apart.

All in all it was a fantastic, scary (Could we actually pull thiss off?!?), and great end to a fun campaign.

More to come with the after effects of killing Lolth as we already have our next campaign in the making.... "Generations."
